I quit NS2 some time ago for many reasons, but one particular one is how inactive the gather scene was at the time.

One thing I always thought would have been great was if you would get a notification through steam, that either the gather you entered is starting, rather than having your internet browser up only to wait for that appaling alert music. At that time, I did research a little bit to see if it was possible to maybe make a bot that a player could elect to add to their friendslist on steam, and it would send prvt messages, such as:
"Gather started Connect [NS2 Server] and see teams [ENSL gather page]"
And "ENSL gather needs 2 more players Join at [ENSL gather page]".
Through the Steam API (http://steamcommunity.com/dev) - I found back then that it was not possible.

However I just stumbled upon this : https://steamtracks.com/tour which DOES seem to allow for this exact thing. As I said, I don't play NS2 anymore, but I do think back fondly of the game, and would like to see it succeed again some day. So I won't be making this myself, but perhaps somebody here can use that link.

Edit: Also, in the same fashion, I think it would be awesome to have an irc bot somewhere, perhaps on some of the twitch.tv streams that can sort of advertise/inform about gather activity. I don't know how many people still idle irc, but I do and have many twitch related bots and scripts for it. It allows for a bit more life in an otherwise inactive ns2 streamchat if nothing else.

That's interesting. I have no patience and motivation to do that myself but maybe it could be nice to ask the current gather admins their opinion about this. Thanks for the information anyway.
