I know rantology was working on new comm badges but havnt seen them implemented yet.

Love this idea but really wish we could simply use army ranks

Reason: many more levels which allows larger ladder to earn as well as more accurately identifying experience of comms.

I know a drawback might be that there are so many players might not be able to memorizie them however this is exactly why we should use army officer rank, enough players should be familiar from rl or EA battlefield etc...\

2nd lt : hours >25 && hours 50 && 100 && hours 275 && hours 475 && hours 800 && hours 1200

could add a gold general for hours exceeding 2000 if needed.

Also This would be a cool implementation for the vets that play ns2

here is a link to a helpful chart

I don't get why to start at 2LT. There are 9 ranks below it. So theoretically you could make this much more finegrained. If that is useful, though, I don't know.

For a simpler design, which orients at the one, which there already is one could go just for:
Commander Badge
Commander Badge Silver
Commander Badge Gold

It would leave out ranks entirely. Some servers use military ranks already (custom badge mods), so it would not interfer with these kind. And people would easily recognize the commander badge again - having the same design in silver and gold should make it pretty clear to even new players what is going on here.

But, honestly, I think this topic suits better the UWE-Forums then the NSL-Forums.

2nd lt is the lowest officer rank there is. If you are reffering to enlisted then I understand what you are saying but I think officer rank should be used for commanders.

There are a few reasons i want the diversity of using army ranks

your suggestion of only having a bronze silver gold commander badge is a little too simplistic i feel.

I have thousands of hours in the chair. Should i get the same gold badge as someone with only a couple hundred? What is there too work for? Right now ns2 has an plethora of irrelevant collectables such as "colectable pens" "sticky shoe" etc..... Why would it be desirable to have an abundance of these "collectables" but limit the types of badges that can be earned that are also usefull in game.

Also I think enslisted ranks should also be give to players but not for time in chair. Instead they should reflect hive skill giving players a good visual reference for the players "field skill".....

pvt 2700 hive skill

im not going to edit to fix the horrible post this forum has iterperated above. I difinately did not type private for anyone under 2700 hive skill. I also put a lot more information in that post that this forum left out.

What is up with the programming on this forum that it just reformats information like that?

First: the reason the forum messes up your posts, is because you use a lot of lesser and larger signs, which it tries to interpret as commands. Don't ask me what exactly it is using, or what it is called... I don't know about that kind of stuff. Just use a different way to express your intervals and things will be fine.

On topic: I see why you want to start the whole thing with the 2LT, but in my opinion it gives it associates the word "commander" in NS2 with too much. You can give an ordering of military ranks, which suggest that 2LT is above anything of the non-officer ranks. But I don't see why such an ordering should hold for the players of NS2. Sure the commander is a specific role in NS2, but I wouldn't go and say it is more important than the field-players. It's like saying the goalie is more important to a football game than the field-players.

The word "commander" alone does not justify giving out officer ranks to that dude and non-officer ranks to the others. If the player in the sack/chair would have been named "Frederik" from first day onwards in NS we would never think about giving him officer-ranks straight away.

If you want to give ranks out to the commander-player or field-players, I would stay away from military ranks at all. As written above military ranks are already used in communities and on custom-badged servers. Coming in with a second line of military ranks being interpret in another way will 1) confuse and 2) look ugly.

You can be as finegrained as you want with a customized system. Badge, Silver-Badge, Gold-Badge was just an example. Another example would be commander-level: 1-100 you get one level per 100 hours in the chair. So in your case you would have many more levels to look forward to achieve... Again this system would be easy to understand, even for the guys, who would have no idea what military is.

tl,dr: I'm not against more accentuated badges for commanders per se. But I see no need or advantage in using military ranks. Instead they irritate in company with custom-badges and are inflexible. They further suggest a meaning which is not backed by the game.
