As for the gather ready music playing, perhaps if you mute/unmute it acts as a stop button rather then a mute button?

Join server button didnt work for me. Steam couldnt find the server. I assume its the master browser as it usually is.
May consider a 2nd link which connects directly, but ns2 needs to be closed for that.


That's my bad, my dev machine is not the same as my gaming pc. So not so straightforward to test out

If you use the steam master browser you need the query port of the server. This allows you to query how many are connected, etc. If your client(s) use a master browser which, at that moment, is crap then they may not be able to connect. Result due to this may vary.
NS2 can be open for this one.

steam://connect/ServerNameOrIP:QueryPort/PasswordIfAny


If you want to connect to NS2 directly you do this by the game port. A query of playercount is not possible. This bypasses any masterbrowser issues.
NS2 can not be open for this link, as it starts up NS2.

steam://run/4920//"connect%20ServerNameOrIP:GamePort%20PasswordIfAny"

Note that if you feed the connect command directly into NS2, your string wil become MUCH more painful. You can, for example, not use spaces. You need to use %20 instead.
Also note the connect part must be in " "


The commands mentioned in the previous post with + signs may not work in all external applications, which testing showed matters.

Uhm.. gratz? But I am being serious, its app dependant. Certain programs behave differently. One program may swallow the spaces, the other does not.
Does that make sense? No. But thats how it is. :)

It was a interesting evening when I set out to look at these links a while back. ;)

If people regather the button likes to run down the page really quickly.

I've had a weird bug now twice where the page won't update once captains are picked until I refresh it.

I like the idea, but I'd say putting division after team instead of elo would be much more useful.

I don't like the idea of automatic server vote. Unnecessary imo, and could actually result in you getting a worse server (e.g. mostly NA players so EU players vote Toronto to beat Dallas).

I don't know how hard that would be to implement but it would solve the problem of people forgetting to vote for servers/maps.
Also if people don't want it to vote automatically they don't have to set the option up, or just change the vote whenever they join the gather.

Would be nice if the gather page stopped playing a song before playing a song.

Happens that people leave and rejoin the gather. Making the music play twice. And sometimes more. If you don't stop it manually each time. And then you have to press pause for each time the song have begun playing.

Progress is slow, backlog is building while I rewrite the frontend to lay the groundwork for future improvements. I can only do this in my free time when I have the energy to fit the app in my head again and do things. Next build is a big one (I'm probably around 50% done)

At the current gather youre waiting ~20 minutes until the game starts,
because there exists a gather culture where always a few people are late and as a consequence nobody tries to be early.

With an alternative gather queue like the inventational or progmod it would be possible to enforce fast gathers, without offending player who prefer the current gather system.

Call is speed gather and give player who dont follow the rules a short ban for the speed queue.

Once 12 player joined and the music plays, there should be an "accept gather" button for everyone, not just for the 12 queued.
The first 12 player who accept will form the gather, which will sort out any inactive player by default.

Then each captain picks their team in 1 minute each. After time runs out, the highest hiveskill player should be picked automatically.

If someone isnt able to connect to the server and discord in 5 minutes, he should get a warning/ban etc.

Also to speed up who plays which lifeform, it should be required to just evolve into lerk/fade before readying up.

i honestly liked the 10 minutes time ns2 takes quiet a while to load on a old pc without ssd... and after some patches...

So imagine they are not in 5 minutes on the server/discord what then you give warning/ban but you still need a player,
do you just regather ? or find a merc ?

Sounds good in theory, remembers me of the old ns1 evolve ns server plugin where everyone wrote in chat:
"/role Fade"...

Also maybe also introduce a forced game-start thing you know if 1 team with 6 players types ready the other team has 5 minutes to "ready" otherwise it will just start ?!

How about kicking players who dont vote a captain and the gather doesnt start until all 12 votes were used.
