I posted it in the ladder topic already, but I'm posting it here too, because I want more people to discuss it ;)

Having badges for playing in NSL can get more people into competitive and make more fair divisions. It will be also something nice to reward people currently playing in NSL.. Basically if we have badges for every division, teams would have more motivation to play in higher division. Better division means better badges.
When a person with badge will appear on pub server more people will hear about NSL, maybe some of them will join next season.

Every division would have its own badge + badges for 4th-3rd place(bronze badge), 2nd place (silver) and of course 1st (gold). Every player who played in at least one official match would get a badge. That means referees would have to inscribe every match's players. Some more work to do :/

The idea also needs someone who will make this badges, and CDT to add them to the game.

I think it's worth some work, and it will bring some positives to the community :)

I do approve your idea. However, I have a few things to put down here and make (maybe) some clarifications.

First off, offering badges to the winners, those that end up second and third from every division would be nice. That'd afford people to get some kind of distinction on both public and competitive servers. It could also help our competitive community by bringing more public players who may feel interested at earning badges with playing in a team. There's currently no reward for the winners, apart the Hall of Fame. I'm pretty sure most of the players isn't even aware of it...

Short question though, would you give the badges to each season, which means different badges every 3 months or so or these badges would be back into play once a new season starts? In other words, do the teams have to stay at the top of their own division to be allowed to keep their badges?

This enthusiasm aside, a such reward system won't be easy thing. As you may know, adding badges to a player requires that the said badges must be integrated to the Hive beforehand. And these badges (as far as I know) can only be added into it by releasing a new official build. You got the point?
They're also tied to the UWE forums, meaning that an Administrator or someone with the ability to do so is needed to put somebody, the players into new categories such as "Div 1 Winner". If you're going to the "back into play" system, you will need Lukas to remove badges from people, which means going through UWE again and not being free to act. The other solution would be to go through a mod, but the badges wouldn't be really public in this case.

As you also pointed out, a designer or voluntaries must be found to create these badges.

I guess it can be done, but you will need CDT's approval. Great idea, and at least, it is one of the (many?) possibilities to maintain the interest of the players and you're the first one to explicitly state his point of view by giving an example.

Yeah, I think that badged for every season that is connected to an account forever is a better option. It means that we need new badges for every season (or maybe for every cup as well), which is at least 2 badges per year. We have 4 badges for every division, but difference between them is only a colour. The same goes for difference between divisions badges, it can be just a number. Badges for cup would be harder to made, but if we counts only division badges, making them isn't such a problem. I think topic about that on official forum where we can ask CDT directly is a good idea, if they don't see any problem in implementing this into the game, everything we will have to do is get someone who will make badges.

I posted this on the UWE forums, too.

The problem is that it would be difficult to keep track of it. You could have a roster with 45 people on it, 6 of them play one match, the team disbands, and then everyone gets the badge.

If you only gave it to the people who played, someone would have to actually keep track of who participated in the season.

Essentially... it would be a big pain in the butt and not really worth the time, imo.

If anything, give a badge to players based on how they end the season. First place, gold. Second, silver. Third, bronze. Separate for every division. Give it to everyone who had been on the team when rosters became locked before quarterfinals. Keep it forever. NSL keeps track of the date players joined the rosters. Then there's no maintenance with updating & removing badges every season, just adding more at the end of the season. Only using one set of badges means way less work for the people who create the badges.

A badge for every team member in the 4 first higher teams in each division.
Gold : 1st
Silver : 2nd
Bronze : 3rd/4th

All teams in semifinals.
Problem is, you can't have badges for people who played all the matches. Some of them will switch teams during the season, or just leave, etc ... It would have to be badges for the current line-up. The one that ends the season.

Here is the official CDT response.

I'm not going to close the topic but I don't think there's anything else to say.
