Yes... NS1 is hitscan - and it deals with high pings actually very well - considering it's so fucking old

I wonder how they will normalise this weird engine and bring it to normal frames, right now its a fucking fps drop fest and you need a 4000 $ rig to run a beta-game on a what,5-6 year old game graphics standard?

i have a semi-decent computer that i only paid about 900$ for and I get about 70fps on average. Tweak your video card so that you turn off all the junk that NS2 doesn't even use, triple buff off, AA off, set it performance, set GPU to run off your video card.

Then once in game turn off the large fps droppers, take off r_shadows, r_bloom, r_atmospheric and whatever else you do not need.

With just that, as long as you have about a 3.3ghz+ you should be good.

another note: There are more things you can change in your gfx card control panel, just play around with them and you'll notice a difference.

my ram isnt limiting, my cpu isnt limiting, my gpu isnt limiting -> the engine needs hard fixing.

from 100+ fps to 30 and below on something as simple as shooting? LOL

NS2 relies on CPU frequency. In fact I barely use 3 cores at 40-50% on my i5 750. But if you clock them high enough you shouldn't be too worried about fps rates.

Even using Speedstep makes a noticeable difference.

Got to admit 186 was a pretty huge patch with nice improvements. You should check it out if you haven't yet.

Not really. Gameplay is amazingly even worse than 187 and you still need a nitrogen cooled supercomputer to get playable FPS.
