TweadleI have a theory that the only reason people 'improved' on average is because the average user's computer got better.

No doubt a contributing factor, but very much doubt it entirely explains it.

it's more like there's lots of talented players which did not have a good computer till now. also ns has a really big group of veterans.

Yeah r_dynamic would be cool, dunno what's causing it to stuck to 1 on multiplayer.

Anyway, does anyone have any ideas how to improve performance on ATI cards? Anyone uses custom drivers, Rivatuner optimizations?

Also, what other settings are there apart from gl_picmip and gl_texturemode to get more FPS? I mean anything substantial.

Never buy ATI again!

something i found today, it seems playing on able reduces my FPS.

i did as follows:

set up a base, veil, 2 ips, armory armslab and obs. research MT W1 A1 (just incase upgrades clutter reduce fps)

put 2 pgs right infront of the armory. obs to armories right, arms to the left. stand next to MS rt, at the right handside corner. stare at the TSA sign on the other side of MS.

FPS if i just restarted NS: around 170, 160 with tab. 150 if i shoot and 140 if i shoot +tab.

fps after joining able, and playing 1 life as skulk: 120 (!)

wtf? can anyone explain this?

also i think NStalent and ENSL servers did not have that same effect on my fps, but i am not sure. if it did have an effect it was smaller, thats for sure.

edit: Asmodee suggested that it may have something to do with the hordes of useless plugins able makes you download. thx asmo

just flew over this thread, didnt see anybody else recommending it:

nsfps should only be influenced by the cpu on your machine tbh. dont know how it is with your intel, but my new shiny phenom x4 has a neat lil feature called cool&quiet which downclocks the cpu on itself.

so, where i should get constatn 200 fps even on xtravlvbuildshitretartedco-pubs, it gives me only around 30-90 on a complete empty server.
disabling the energysaving thingies was the only way to get the cpu to ran at full speed. somehow it doesnt really take ns seriously and thus kept downclocking itself to 800mhz.

check your motherboards manufacturer for a tool to set the speed steppings manually and hope that it was as simple as that :)

Necros I too have less performance on ABLE the plugins slow down the server making it laggier for low-end computers.
