So we all know that NS2 isn't as popular as it should be right? We need more players to keep the dwindling competitive community alive, and maybe some day even turn this humble game into a major E-sport. I know what you're thinking. Gee Detector, how could we do that? Simple.
Microtransactions. Imagine how popular this game could be if people could spend real money, or in-game currency to buy cosmetic items for their characters! Grenade launcher that shoots (what looks like) babblers? Flamethrower with a cold blue flame, or even hearts? GORGES WITH TOP HATS!
I believe this would be such a roaring success, that we could expand upon it. A whole economy of NS2 items that give a slight edge to your gameplay. I'm sure your knee jerk reaction is to say this is bad, or somehow "RUINS" the game. Well it's not like every noobie would come in with a 360noscope gun. I just suggest minor upgrades for large amount of currency (for the devs.) Have a set of items worth ~$15? You get heat vision goggles that makes skulks just a bit more visible. It's obviously not wall hacks, but you can see a slight glow through thin walls. Got items worth ~$45? You get a gun that has 65 bullets instead of 50. For the very generous players that keep the community alive, who donate say $200 for the game? They get the good stuff. Regenerating armor so they dont have to be welded. If they're not in combat for 10 seconds their armor is full. Tracer bullets. If they hit a lifeform they, and their team mates, can see it through walls. Kill streaks! If they kill, say, 5 skulks they can get special upgrades. Super speed? A radar showing where skulks are?
I know, I'm sure you all think this might not be the best decision. But trust me. If you want this sport to be taken seriously, consider my ideas.
I would not play pay to win ns2 and im sure im not the only one.

Microtransactions for skins/cosmetic non-game-changing things -> YES
Microtransactions for "heat vision goggles" -> NO

You don't have heat vision goggles in ns2? Then why can I see the skulks behind the walls?

There's nothing wrong with harmless customization (skins etc.) imo, as long as you don't ruin the gameplay.

thats not true b1.
Flayra asked us about the idea of custom skins in NS2, e.g. custom Shotgun like in CS:GO and stuff.
He is thinking about the possibility =)

Well adding somes weapons models, cosmetic (barely visible, it mean NO babbler grenade launcher or firework shootgun) can be nice, adding some powerup will ruin the game or made it more unballanced, it will never happen

If it was not necesary to have an expensive computer to play NS2, I'm sure there would me more people playing it, and if the learning curve wasn't that steep then the rookies wouldn't ragequit the game after a few hours of rape.
But eh, that's also what makes NS2 what it is, and that's why we only keep the best players.
Anyway, improving the optimization would be a huge win, coupled with some kind of advertising and then more people would come.
I agree with the idea of new skins that we can actually see on ourselves (custom weapon skins, salad in the skulk teeth, piercing on Onos horn...). I know I can download mods from the workshop, but it doesn't feel the same.

the lastest graph from steamgraph.com seems that ns2 gets a few more players from the humble bundle but it seems like thats not gonna save the game since everybody that wanted to buy the game at one point allready has it....
also if they wont fix ns2 it will never get more players :()

Adding cosmetics, tiny improvements that don't affect a fight but for example regenerate up to 90% of armor and ACHIEVEMENTS, I want a displayable sticker or something for killing an onos with a welder ! -> simply just fun -> more players
Im sure tiny improvements like 1 extra clip on rifle or build speed boost etcetc wouldn't hurt on pubs at all

Subnautica is part of the reason why NS2 is dead, UWE focusing on Subnautica instead of fixing and updating NS2.
But yes, I would totally pay for more cosmetic items.

I completely agree about atleast significantly reducing the cost of ns2 and having comsetics. But I still think making tiiiny improvements ON PUBS available to buy would help UWE and keep noobs more intrested :)
And I thought subnautica was suppose to save UWE from bankrupzee. Atleast they said because ns2 didn't give enough income they had to come up with something new. Thats what I've heard and I think they say it in a video.
