Competitive Mod

There was a small patch released this week to address minor issues and bugfixes. The Competitive Mod incremental changelog can be found here under the May 1st (5/1) update list. Please read these changes carefully and keep providing feedback as you play. All feedback and opinion is read, considered, and appreciated.

NSL Servers

Normally, we're able to provide up to 22 servers for matches, gathers, and practice. These servers will not be available for a short period until we figure out some issues. In the meantime, Wasabi has set up 4 servers in North America (2 NSL West and 2 NSL East servers. Password: ns2nsl) for use. Also, with Kaneh's permission, matches can be played on the Reddit pug/gather servers. Currently, we have no servers available in Europe or the Pacific region. Please let us know if you're a team or community member that has a server that can be freed up for a few matches. Any help with this will be immensely appreciated.

Match Deadlines

We're starting Week 7 (May 3rd) matches this weekend with a deadline of May 13th. We're also trying to wrap our Week 5 (April 19th) and Week 6 (April 26th) Easter break matches with respective deadlines of May 4th and May 6th this weekend also. Please stay on top of scheduling to avoid forfeits and delaying your other matches.

Division 4 Playoffs

With a few teams unable to finish the season, Division 4's regular season has come to a conclusion and we move into the playoff phase of their season. The Quarterfinals start now! The format will be a best of 5 match with the higher seeded team earning the right to choose side (marines or aliens) or map first. Normal best of x rounds procedures apply afterward. You have until May 25th to complete your quarterfinal matches. If all four matches are played before the 25th, the semifinals and finals may proceed earlier than scheduled. Good luck, teams!

Players can use NSL Match Paris, both servers hosted in France are working. You also can play on our 2hrsLater server, password is "manger", it is a french server too. All the mods needed are already installed on these servers.

Yeah, NSL match - Paris by onFire is ready to go, password ns2nsl ofc and admins/refs should have the rights. And our "onFire Private" is also open for business all weekend except Sunday 19-23 cest. But you have to use votes to change stuff. pw "empty".

Sad to see quaterfinals. Now the Div 4 group play was almost entirely irrelevant. They used most of the season to exclude 2 teams, one of which disbanded. It should take effort to reach the playoffs imo. When you have 10(or 12) teams in a division, only 4 teams should advance, not 8 imo. The group play is now wasted effort.

As a player, I agree - it does seem pointless to have to basically play several of the teams you've already beaten again. However, it does make it feel like there are still a decent number of teams playing, due to the extra matches to watch xD

As one, who is actually affected by that ruling: I don't mind quarterfinals in the playoffs. In Div4 we don't pursue honor and glory as much as in higher divisions ;) I am happy to play more games instead, which serves the teams here much better.

Of course other players in div4 might see it differently. And of course players in higher divisions should see it differently, as well. If I would play there, I would be annoyed I guess. But in Div4 we play for the funs of it ;)

Maybe we don't have to call it playoffs so swalk stops having depressions about it. We could call it 2 round season, 1st round robin and 2nd single elimination bracket with seeds based on round 1. If you did good during season, you will play the worse team first, giving you upper hand to advance trough the bracket. Happy swalk?

as a div 4 player i was surprised. It was no use to come on top of group. On the positive side we get to play a team from the other group, which we otherwise would never have faced :) but still feels like we're starting from scratch again...

@Vindaloo No. In my opinion the group play is a waste of time if you dont utilize it to sort out at least 50% of the teams. If we had 16+ teams in the divisions it would be fine to have quaterfinals, but with these low division counts it just makes the group play redundant. I mean, who cares about seedings in the playoffs? You have to beat the other teams if you want to win the playoffs anyway. I pretty much don't care how the rest of our group play matches go, because they simply won't matter. We will reach the playoffs no matter what and by then status quo is back to the start of the season, making the group play completely irrelevant. Calling it something else doesn't change a thing, that should be obvious. Even to you.

Plus, the (very) few teams that are left out of the playoffs will have to wait longer on the new season when you have quaterfinals (ie. longer playoffs). Might as well remove the group play altogether if it shouldn't require any effort to reach the playoffs anyway. The group play as we have it now can be compared to a tv series that have most of the season filled with filler episodes. Not very serious or interesting.
