I thought the tournament was excellent! Things went smoothly and the casters were very good.

The 2 contstructive things I'd say:

1. </3 that justin.tv website. I can't stream from it properly. It could be my crappy connection, but it was downloading at >100KB/s yet couldn't stream without pausing constantly.

2. Commentary for us nubs! A lot of the commentary went over my head. Maybe if you could select a couple of games and dumb it down to those of us who have no idea how to play SC. e.g.: why the crap do people have 200apm at the start of the game? You group harvesters, right click a mineral field, construct harvesters and... wait? I'm clearly missing something here!

It's a pathetic little thing sherpa, but players deliberately boost their APM at the start either by selecting workers and then hotkeying the command center/nexus/hatch really fast or by spamming the cc/nex/hatch and spamming rally points really fast.

All the pros say it's what they do to "warm" themselves up. But let's face it... it's just a way to boost your apm to make your e-peen bigger. Not saying I don't do it too thought!

I guess you could compare it to tracking bunnyhopping skulks before both teams have readied... Perhaps.

Also, as no one else has mentioned it.

From what I've heard from people (and myself included); I think a bo3 system would be better. In my eyes atleast I think any system would be better. This system relies on good seedings and these can change dramatically due to how good someone is playing on the day or if they get "lucky" (cheese ect.). I personally didn't enjoy having to wait 8 hours or so to play a game and then to be kicked out straight away. Also this system fails a bit, because at the end of the day, the best top player will carry his team. It doesn't matter if you have sherpa on your team because aslong as you have X-player (the best!), you should win anyway!

I would prefer a 1v1 tournament style, with knockout and double elim/loser brackets. Ofcourse with bo3 and map pick.

Pretty much whatever GibbZ said

as for team matches make it so that we can make our own teams leave the "own skill level" crap elsewhere we are here to improve.

No, the tag system is good.

If you allowed custom teams, it would encourage stacked teams.
If you make team randoms, with a tag system ( aka 1 player can strike the whole team ) you allow everyone to play ( by forcing the order of players from lowest to highest seed ) and still the best team to win ( or best carry if you will .. )

yes i agree,

the next plan , when my site is up and running my idea is to have teams of 3.. each plays 3 games so the score is out of 9. Each player can play 3 times , but doesn't matter which order. etc etc.

i agree, thats why i position the best player (or what i thought was) at the end of the queue in order to allow weaker players play. and enjoy the experience. after all this tournament was something to keep us going over the summmer, and for me to get some material for my site.

If you like , this is alpha for my league.

Keep the feed back coming. I believe i will be doing an invitational (1on1) soon, with casting etc etc.

The next team tournament season will be up when my site is up, i will also open it to public, making it a 1-2 week signing up (but anything could change in the mean time).

I believe during the next season i will allow people to make their own teams and possibly have a few divisions. anyway keep updated.

Hivefish give me ur stream friends through PM or something please :D

This is a bit off-topic but- in a similar way to the farm teams of NS1- if we get 2 good players (hivefish vs franky looked a good game) to play each other, then an experienced player to spectate from one player's POV and give commentary from the absolute basics (what's a standard build order, which harvester should be used to scout, which unit counters what, building placement) and talk us newbies through it, it'd be awesome. I've had a look at some of the VoD sites frG and mu posted but they're based around already knowing the ins-and-outs of SC.

As it is, I wouldn't enter another tournament at the moment as it's daunting- the "base" skill level needed to play SC is exceptionally high (think NS1/CPMA etc).

The only thing I learnt from my stomp in the tournament is that BASES AREN'T SYMMETERICAL! As evilness put it in a PM after the match: "that's your first game outside of the SP, right?"

Come on sherpa, a little bit of effort, and you would find this in one of my links:

There are even more tutorials, but if you don't search for them, you won't find them ;)

I think personally you should scrap the team shit.

I just don't honestly see the point in it... What do you achieve with a team system which you couldn't with a normal solo system?

I agree, maybe a second league or something that promotes team shit, but 1v1 with loser bracket or something sounds much better.

I'd like 1v1's, too. The weaker players can still play, just put the brackets the way we have interesting matches. (i.e. don't let it start with like TROLLS vs. 2RAM ;)

Or just make more divisions according to the skill level. e.g. >= platinum goes div1, below gets div2
But I wouldn't make too many divisions as we don't have that many players around, 2 seems fine.

No seeding, double elimination?!

Anyway surely you aren't going to get 1 player who is THAT much better than everyone else??

Bo3 with fixed starting maps then losers pick. A proper bracket-tourny with 1 streamed game per round. More games for people and less cheesy.
