Season 4 Wrap Up

With all the finals played, Season 4 is officially in the books. Congratulations to the following teams for winning their divisions.

Division 4 - PinkFluffyGorges

Division 3 - Gorge Busters

Division 2 - 2hrsLater

Division 1 - Gnarcolepsy

Premier Division - Titus Gaming

For a more indepth look at the season, please head over to the Season 4 Wrap Up & Feedback thread in the forums.

The Competitive Mod

With the season ended, the third iteration of the Comp Mod has gone live. Please continue to leave thoughtful and reasoned feedback in the forums. This iteration is still experimental and we need games on it for feedback. Summer events will be played with this version.

Revised Plans - EU Draft Tournament

After an unsuccessful attempt to get enough teams to sign up for the EU Night Cup, registration for the EU Draft Tournament is now open. The draft tournament will be held over two Saturdays on July 26th and August 2nd starting at 19 CEST on both days. Times are not final and subject to change depending on the amount of players who register. This tournament will feature a round robin format. All things being equal, teams will not be seeded and each team will play each other once.

Maps to be included for play in this tournament include the standard rotation PLUS ns2_caged (ModID - 63c559c) and a beta version of Kodiak for the 267 build, ns2_kodiak267 (ModID - 88fecb5).

The draft will be held at 19 CEST Friday, July 25th. It will be held on the NSL Teamspeak server (IP - ensl.org).

You can sign up for the draft tournament using this form here.

You can view the players who have already signed up here.

The North American & Australian Draft Tournament started this past weekend and it was loads of fun. I hope the EU one is just as successful in bringing players together from every division and a safe and easy way for pubbers to experience 6v6 in a friendly environment.

I'm also a long-sleeper, like Pelargir...

I would be happy about a time-change to an hour later or so. But, yeah, it needs to be balanced to all players, I guess.

For what team size is this aimed for? Will it be exactly 6, or do captains draft 7 (or more) to have substitutes?

Also: could you give a short description of what the captains need to do (and what they don't have to bother with)? This might motivate more people to volunteer for it :)

"Would you captain a team? *
Captains are required to organize players, communicate with admins, and report scores. They may or may not command their teams. Keep that in mind while drafting."

It's so funny to see how some people seem to overestimate their skill level. lol
By the way, looks like the time has been changed, 19 CEST is a much better I think.

Pelargir, the time for the draft on Friday is 19 CEST. For now, games on Saturday start at 18. If there are less teams than anticipated, it'll be pushed back to 19 CEST.

Team sizes - I'm aiming for team sizes of between 7 and 9, so teams won't be at the mercy of late or no shows.

That's nice and can relax the 18 CEST time for some players, if there are 6 in the team, who can start for the first game.

I'm a bit baffled that you do the draft and the games on several days. Previous gather cups here on ensl, you would have the draft on ts3 and then begin to play immediately after that. It just seems awkward to do it at different days, it should only take like 15 mins to pick the teams. Then another 15 mins for people to get on the servers and start playing.
That way you don't have to care about no-shows, because they will not get picked in the draft if they are not around at game-time. Which means you can easily lower the team sizes to 6-8(only 8 if really nessesary) players per team, depending on the number of signups. With team sizes of 9, many players won't get to play half the games. That's extremely frustrating, please consider changing draft time to saturday 18 CEST and game time to 18.30 CEST. Or even move it half an hour ahead, so you have draft time at 18.30 CEST and game time at 19 CEST as some deem nessesary to be able to play.

skyice - You mean the 2 or 3 out of the almost 40 that signed up? As I've mentioned before, I used 18 CEST because I'm not sure what the interest level will be and how many players will sign up. Player count determines how many games we'll need to play each weekend. The more teams, the earlier we need to start and I'd rather have to push the time back then ask players to come earlier. If there aren't much more sign ups, it'll be pushed back... as previously stated.

swalk - No. The Aussie draft tournament and the NA/AU tournament was ran with this format and has been fine.

I just give the opinion for most of the french guys here, we won't sign up 'cause it's too early for us. 19 CEST is a bit better but not perfect neither. People do not want to give their opinion in comments everytime to push the time to one hour later the tournament, that's all.

The fact is, even if some of us want to play it later, because it's not possible to sign up for that time, it doesn't mean the players, who already signed up won't be here for 19 CEST. So more players, more fun.

Your choice.

Swalk we didn't have any problems at all. I had more guys show up the next day for the actual tournament than I did for the draft. It worked out well because it gave me time to hunt down my players. While some players I knew, a lot were randoms that I'd never even heard of. I definitely preferred it this way!

As for picking the teams, it took about an hour and fifteen minutes to do. Everyone wants to think about their choices and figure out what lifeforms they need and such. It wasn't a super quick thing.

Yes and here we are an hour behind you so it's even worse for uk players. If we are still playing any games around the 9/10pm mark then we can safely assume that everyone has commited their evening/night to playing ns2.

Therefore it is more reasonable to set the games to be played through out the night rather than asking people with kids, girlfriend, wife and friends to drop all plans (dinner with family, mrs or friends. Coming home after spending the Saturday out) because they have a online mix starting with a bunch of losers at 5gmt.

I'm sure people are cable of playing into the night, but why not actually ask people rather that doing what you think best? Do a damn poll... "which time would you prefer to play the draft which is expected to last 3 or 4 hours? 18cest, 18.30, 19, 19.30 20.

Is it possible to make the starting time flexible then? You can start playing matches at 18.00 CEST but 19.00 your team better be ready to play. Would it solve things or just create new problems? Never done a draft tourney before so I don't know the format that well.
